Gretta Brannigan, Artist. Born into the quiet lifestyle and cultures of an Indiana farm life heritage crossed with the multi-culturally rich urban lifestyle of the American northeast, here I am, an Artist with interest in the ARTS to and fro! I became a self taught artist, drawing and painting on almost anything, a trait I still embrace. Interestingly, my birth into the art world began to mature into recognized shapes and compositions in the early 50's, learning to draw with John Gnagy on TV! I was just 5.I have had a number of professional mentors under which I studied clothing and fashion design but after some dabbling in pencil and ink, watercolor and acrylics, at last, I have found that oil painting is my true passion. I paint with mood provoking colors on limited color palettes of hues and tones which give my work the quality of inviting you into intimate scenes. Genealogy is another of my strong passions, ever researching into my own and other’s ancestral past which lends my work to embrace moments in history of a quiet, soothing and comforting time. A peak at life as it once was. Continuing to develop a style unique and very personal to many, I hope to merge my inspiration with true historic memories. Whether the painting depicts a day in the life, an every day scene, or a special memory, those commissioned pieces of art to honor your family‘s history and life stories in a warm and soft, intimate view are what I feel most connected to.
